Wheatstone 30 key CG anglo. Serial number 51185 which would have been made in 1940. It has steel reeds in brass reed frames, finely fretworked nickel silver ends, metal buttons and original six fold bellows. It has had an overhaul in 2016 by Nigel Sture with new pads, new valves and tuning to concert pitch. Comes with it’s original case.
This is a very unusual Wheatstone anglo that is transitional between the classic Linotas of the 1920s and 30s and the cheaper anglos made later. The reeds and reed pans, and the metal ends are typical of the earlier high quality Linota anglos and the action is the hook design typical of later models. As an instrument it plays like the earlier models with a fast action and reed response and a great dynamic range, and has a loud bright sound when required.
