Hohner Double Ray (black dot) BC

£630.00

Hohner Double Ray from the late 1930s with curved “pine tree” grill.  I have given it a full overhaul with all reeds cleaned, re-valved, re-waxed and tuned to a moderate tremolo.   I have converted the bass to the modern bass layout shown here.  I’ve put in a limit to the button travel on the right hand side, re-faced the pallets on both sides and fitted felt bushes to the bass buttons.   It’s now ready for a new owner and a new 21st century playing career.

Description

Hohner Double Ray (aka black dot) BC. A lovely early example from the late 1930s of the model that Hohner developed with input from Jimmy Shand.  This is the rarer model with curved “pine tree”  grill that may be the precursor of the 1950s design.  The curved grill us designed to give better projection of sound.   I have complete a full overhaul with all reeds cleaned, re-valved, re-waxed and tuned to a moderate tremolo.   I have converted the bass from the Hohner layout designed for playing in B to the modern bass layout shown here.  I’ve put in a limit to the button travel on the right hand side, re-faced the pallets on both sides and fitted felt bushes to the bass buttons.  Externally the black painted finish, with its striking white and green graphics, is all original. I have done very little apart from cleaning and fitting new bellows straps.  It’s now ready for a new owner and a new 21st century playing career.

A modern Italian gig bag is included in the sale.
